Hiatus With No Date to Continue
Following the end of their 9th-anniversary celebration in 2022, millennial King of Pop, BTS, makes a sudden announcement of their group hiatus. So, for how long is BTS hiatus, and does it mean that the group is falling apart right now? Check out the following reasons behind BTS sudden hiatus announcement.
BTS Ended Festa 2022 with a Sudden Group Hiatus Announcement
After engraving their big name in the global music industry and securing numerous accomplishments these past years, BTS decided to conclude their 2022 anniversary celebration, BTS Festa, with a sudden group hiatus announcement.
On June 14, BTS released their anniversary dinner video, in which the boys shared drinks and meals together as a group.
And apparently, it was for the last time – for now.
Following their 2022 Festa anniversary dinner, BTS suddenly made an announcement that they're going for an "off-season", which the official English subtitle translated as "group hiatus".
"So we've entered an off-season,"

5 Reasons BTS Group Hiatus Means the Group is NOT Falling Apart But Getting Stronger
For these past few years, there has been a lot of talk about whether BTS will disband. That is especially when they're reaching the age of 30, and BTS eldest hyung, Jin, must enlist in the military this year.
Such rumors have been circulating on the internet, and it got worse after BTS—who's always emphasized their OT7 activities all this time—decided to open a personal Instagram account.
With such rumors and actions that made some of the fans anxious, today BTS suddenly makes group hiatus announcement. This truly brings extreme shocks for most fans—and possibly joy for the haters—that BTS is falling apart.
But are they, really? The answer is NO, that is NOT the case at all.
For a much clearer perspective, check out the following reasons why BTS is NOT falling apart despite their 2022 group hiatus announcement.
1. Searching for an Identity as A Person
When they officially debuted in 2013, BTS insisted on building their image and doing most of their promotional activities together. While this is a fantastic breakthrough that sets their image as BTS apart from other groups, it has been eating away at their individual identity.
"After spending the past 10 years as BTS while carrying out our busy schedule together, I can't mature.
RM
There's no time for me to think. There's no time for me to grow, not just in terms of my skills but as a human.
I'm a very different person from who I was 10 years ago, and I need time to think and be on my own, so those thoughts can mature into something uniquely mine."
BTS debuted at the most crucial phase of the self-development stage. They were supposed to search for their true identity as a foundation to walk their future path. But, instead, all the members must put their personal matters away and focus only on the group for the past 10 years.
Therefore, BTS will be taking some time off to make time for themselves. They need to pay for all the missing time when they speak and act not just for the sake of the group but also their own.
Building a solid relationship means being happy and content with yourself first. And all this time, BTS members must sacrifice the time to do so for the sake of the group.
By taking a step back to find their identity outside the image of BTS, the members are facing their inner problems head-on and striving for the sake of the group's future.
2. Focusing on What They Can Accomplish Individually
BTS has proven to be the most solid and successful Kpop group. But let's just be honest, due to their OT7 primary concept, there's less they can accomplish as an artist individually. Together as 7, people immediately notice that they're the great BTS. But when you focus on them individually, again, you will only say that they are "members of BTS".
"When people hear our group name, they say, 'Oh wow, BTS.' But honestly, people don't really know who each member is."
RM
But not BTS. While the members are phenomenal in their activities as the whole BTS, they had very little chance to explore their own strengths as artists.
"I think we're just now starting to think about what kind of artist we each want to be remembered as by our fans.
Jimin
That's why we're going through a tough time right now because we've entered a phase where we're only now trying to find our identities."
That is why BTS members decided to take group hiatus in 2022. They wanted to explore the passion they developed after 10 years of career in the music industry with no interruption from any group activities.
"In the past, I could somehow balance working on my music alone with our group activities. But now I can't do them at the same time.
RM
I can't be doing group activities and then flip a switch and change everything to focus on my work. I realized I really need some time on my own."
3. Reinvent The Group's Identity
By having the chance to find what they can accomplish individually, all BTS members can finally build a new foundation and dream as artists and ultimately reinvent their group's identity.
During their 2022 Festa anniversary dinner, one of the main reasons why BTS is taking group hiatus is because they need to reinvent themselves. As much as the endless achievements they had accomplished in the last couple of years, it was the crucial time when BTS was losing its group identity.
"Up until 'ON' and 'Dynamite,' I felt like the group BTS was within my hands. But as we did 'Butter' and 'Permission to Dance,' I didn't really know what kind of group we were anymore."
RM
It happened naturally because BTS is the only Kpop superstar who has been promoting together non-stop with very minimal individual activities. So with no chances and opportunity to explore new ideas, they will keep repeating the same concept over and over again. And eventually, it only will lead to saturation.
Hence, it is among the most crucial reasons that BTS take their group hiatus to reinvent the kind of BTS they want to show to their fans in the future.
And they will only be able to do it by giving themselves the freedom to express themselves outside the group boundaries.
"The hardest thing is writing lyrics. I can't think of anything to say. I have to write about things that I personally feel and want to say, but I feel like I'm just forcing things out right now… and that's so difficult."
Suga
4. Taking a Break from All the "Togetherness"
Indeed, BTS may have just celebrated their 9th anniversary, but they've basically been together for 10 years. Some of them are even longer.
With the constant group promotions and activities, there is no time for each member to take a break from all the rackety and the noise of their togetherness. While staying together is good for bonding, being together all the time can actually tear the group apart. That is why even siblings, spouses, children, and parents take some time apart from each other for some "me time".
Yes, they might have their holidays and vacations to make time for their own family and private occasions. However, as artists, they don't have the chance to explore what they want to do alone, with what they do best, without having to carry all the other 6 members.
"Doing group activities for so long—just like you mentioned earlier, I started to feel like I've become a machine.
Jin
I have my own hobbies and things I want to do on my own."
That is why starting 2022, BTS decided to make their group hiatus announcement. The group hiatus doesn't mean that BTS is falling apart, but it only means they will pause the group promotion for some time. Instead, the members will continue promoting their solo activities.
5. The Beginning of a New Era
Finally, just as BTS promised in their newly-released song, "Yet to Come", this is only the beginning of BTS brand new era.
Starting after their group hiatus announcement in 2022, BTS members will show you the brand new side of each member. And not only that, each BTS member will show you their hidden talents that they had to suppress all this time just to match the "BTS theme".
Later on, after grasping the kind of passion and accomplishment they want to achieve individually as an artist, all the BTS members will have a better idea about the upcoming concept and image of the new BTS.
And they will return stronger than ever!
"I've said this a lot to the other members, but I think we need to spend some time apart to learn how to come together again. So I think this timing is critical.
J-Hope
I hope you don't see this in only a negative light."
How Long Will BTS Take a Break and What's Next?
So, what do you think about all these reasons proving that BTS is not falling apart despite their group hiatus announcement in 2022?
There is no definite announcement for how long BTS group hiatus will be. However, it doesn't mean that BTS will disband or make a complete break.
"It's not like we're disbanding."
Suga
According to BTS RM, from now on, BTS solo activities will start by releasing their solo albums. After all, BTS had only released mixtapes this time, so it will be wonderful to understand the kind of musician the members truly are underneath the group's image.
"Since we're singers, I think it'd be most impactful for us to show [who we are] through our music and performances. So from now on, we're going to release [solo] albums instead of mixtapes."
